PROFESSIONAL AND ARCHIVAL PRINTS OF YOUR PHOTOS

OUR PAPER OPTIONS

It is very difficult to properly represent the characteristics of each paper surface through an image on a website. We suggest you stop by our studio and have a look at sample prints on each paper so you can decide which you like best.

LUSTER PHOTO PAPER

LUSTER FINISH, HEAVY WEIGHT, OUR GO-TO PAPER

Our go to paper choice for printing is our standard Luster Photo Paper. This paper has a mostly smooth finish that is half way between glossy and matte, giving you the benefits of both finishes. We think that just about anything looks good when printed on this paper. It is also thicker than most luster papers, so it doesn’t feel like cheap, quick photo paper.

  • Heavy Weight, Thick Photo Paper (300g)
  • Luster finish: a slight sheen without harsh glare
  • Brightest White Paper
  • Capable of printing with deeper blacks, higher contrast, and sharper lines

PHOTO MATTE PAPER

MATTE FINISH, NO TEXTURE, ARCHIVAL

Our photo matte paper is a medium weight paper with a matte (no shine), smooth (no texture) finish. This paper is a great lower cost choice for reproducing watercolor paintings, drawings, and photographs. If you are unsure of which paper is best for you just ask us and we’ll let you know what we think.

  • Medium Weight Matte Photo Paper
  • Smooth Matte Finish: no shine and no texture
  • Natural White Paper: natural white without a heavily brightened look
  • Good lower cost option
  • Archival

TEXTURED WATERCOLOR

MATTE, TEXTURED FINISH, HEAVY WEIGHT, ARCHIVAL

Our textured matte watercolor paper is a high quality, heavy weight paper with a matte finish and a slight texture to it. This paper is a beautiful choice for reproducing watercolor paintings, drawings, and black and white photos, though it looks good no matter what is printed on it. This is a great paper for limited edition or fine art prints.

  • Heavy Weight Watercolor Paper (310 g/m²)
  • Slightly Textured Matte Finish: no shine and a slight, natural texture
  • Natural White Paper: natural white without a heavily brightened look
  • The look and feel of traditional fine art prints
  • Archival

CANSON PLATINE FIBRE RAG

LUSTER FINISH, HEAVY WEIGHT, ARCHIVAL

Canson’s Platine Fibre Rag is our favorite of all our papers. It has a luster finish similar to older darkroom style papers, a slight tooth to it, natural whites, and has a beautiful sheen that’s perfect for black and white or color photos. You need to see and feel it in person.

  • Heavy Weight Fine Art Photo Paper
  • Luster Finish, Similar To Darkroom
  • Very slightly noticeable texture
  • Our favorite paper
  • Archival

FREQUENTLY ASKED PAPER QUESTIONS

Which Paper Should I Choose?

Each paper has its own characteristics as described above. They all make nice prints otherwise we wouldn’t offer them.

As a general rule, the luster paper is great for photos, though everything looks good on it. The matte paper is great for either photos where you don’t want a shiny finish on the paper or for fine art prints/reproductions where you’re being price conscious. The watercolor paper looks and feels great and is perfect for painting reproductions or photos where you want a decidedly fine art look. The Canson Platine Fibre Rag is great for black and white photos or any high quality reproduction.

Can I See What Your Papers Look Like?

Yes you can. Just come by our studio to see examples of everything we do.

Are Your Papers Archival?

I suggest you have a look at this article as well as this one to get an understanding of what archival means and the role you play in it.

Our watercolor paper is archival certified (which, by the standards of our manufacturer of choice, means it has been tested to 100 years). Our luster and matte papers are not archival certified, though they are tested to last in the 60-70 year range. Note that there are papers labeled archival out there that are not tested to last that long so we cannot stress enough that you educate yourself to the nature of archival prints regardless of where you have your printing done.

Do You Offer Paper Print Discounts?

Yes, if you are doing larger quantities of prints then we’re happy to work with you on a case by case basis. Just get in touch with us and let us know what you have in mind.
